Our story began over 45 years ago, when a small group of students on Thursday Island needed a safe place to live and learn. From those humble beginnings in a single house, Kaziw Meta has grown into a vibrant community, proudly operating from our See Kee property in Tamwoy Town. Today, we offer a culturally strong, caring environment where Torres Strait Islander students from across Zenadth Kes come together to chase their dreams.
Families trust Kaziw Meta because we are more than a boarding facility, we are an on-country home that keeps boarding students connected to culture while preparing them for life beyond school. Every day, our boarders engage in dance, music, art, leadership, and wellbeing programs designed to build strong identity, resilience, and confidence.
Located next door to Tagai State College Secondary Campus, our boarders thrive in a supportive setting that blends learning, independence, and island culture. Our professional boarding staff, many of whom live on-site, work hard to create a “family away from home,” where each child is valued and supported to succeed.

Torres Strait Kaziw Meta is a unique on-country home designed to meet the needs of the boarders who travel long distances from their outer islands, and live with us for 6 years. Life at Torres Strait Kaziw Meta is holistically balanced to build self-confidence in every boarder, by focusing on both education and extra-curricular activities of sport, dance, cooking, technical and life skills.
