Torres Strait Kaziw Meta provides a safe and welcoming “home away from home” pastoral care environment for boarders in years 7 to 12, to be educated at Tagai State College.
We’re a non-profit, co-educational on-country boarding home for secondary aged students from the outer islands with a proud heritage of supporting future generations of Torres Strait Islanders, since 1978.
Through a culturally unique, an “on-country” boarding experience, we grow Torres Strait Islander children to be proud and confident.
Collective Ambition
Acknowledged nationally as the experts in growing culturally-connected Torres Strait Islander leaders of the future.
Staying at Torres Strait Kaziw Meta has allowed me to build kinship with students from every other island. We met as strangers, and left as family – brothers & sisters.

What I loved about Torres Strait Kaziw Meta, is it taught me real life skills; duties/chores, self care, being responsible, and being a leader.”
We respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land, culture and community on which we work and learn on. We pay respect to the elders, past, present and emerging.
